If this is enough to help you make your decision, you can proceed below to enrollment. Otherwise, there is a FAQ that will likely answer many of your questions. Enjoy!

I have wanted to take a moment to say thanks for an amazing experience. We truly appreciated the organization, thoughtfulness and care that went into executing this program.
— Kimberly C.
David and Meredith are very inclusive and sensitive to campers’ needs and they have their eyes wide open. Their ability to notice what they do in their campers is inspiring. In moments they so easily recognized aspects of my child, and I’ve been with her for 7 years and couldn’t see it. I want to learn more!

  • Live Interactive Zoom sessions with David and Meredith and other campers

  • Access to a written forum where David and Meredith respond to questions, celebrate successes, encourage and connect campers

There will be 6 weeks of camp with sessions starting the week of June 17th and ending July 23rd.  There will be two sessions offered each week with the hope that one of them will work for families.  The sessions will be Tuesdays at 12 noon EST and the others will be alternating Mondays and Saturdays at 5PM EST.  The Live Interactive videos will last about 45 minutes on average.

There will also be 3 months of follow-up training including 3 Live Interactive Sessions.
Parents will have the support of a parent handbook to guide children in the experience, and David and Meredith will gladly address your questions and support in any way that they can.

WHERE DID THIS CAMP COME FROM?

The initial “How to be Super” summer camp was launched in 2018 based on the “Violet Crown” collection of stories. In those stories, Dante, a 12-year-old boy from Austin, Texas discovers that he is one of five initiates into a secretive band of superheroes. Over the 20 stories, he undergoes superhero training, learning the four-step Prime Power Protocol. Campers from around the world enrolled in three different camps: Basic Camp, Training Plus Camp and Master Camp.

This year we have adapted the camp content to reference Martin and Sylvia’s “How to be a Superhero” collection, certain stories from “Libby and Dish”, “Windward Ho”, “Junkyard Tales” as well as all four collections from “How to be Super”.

There are now three camp options: the all-ages, interactive summer camp, the DIY “Violet Crown” camp that is based on last year’s Basic Camp, and then an all-ages DIY camp based primarily on the younger stories.

WHEN DO THE CAMPS START AND FINISH?

The Interactive Camp starts on June 17th and runs to July 23rd plus three monthly check-ins, one in August, September and October. The two DIY camps are done on your own schedule.

CAN MY CHILD DO THE CAMP COMPLETELY ON HER OWN?

Your child can watch the videos and complete the practice worksheets & projects on her own, however we recommend parent overview of the child's participation in the course. Some of the exercises ask the child to be introspective and self-aware, in ways that may be new to them. Children may want or need parent-engagement in this process. Additionally there are "walks" and adventures that will need family-appropriate boundary & limit setting. Lastly there will be practice worksheets to print and supplies to gather, which will may necessitate parent support.

WHAT IF WE MISS A WEEK OF THE INTERACTIVE CAMP?

Though we encourage interactive campers to join us as much as possible for the live video trainings, it is not necessary. Children can do this camp at their own pace and always interact with the trainers and other campers on the written forum. Every week a recording of the video training will be posted on the camp website, and it will be available to you indefinitely. We do host two live video trainings a week, one on Tuesdays at 12 Noon EST and one on Mondays or Saturdays at 5PM EST (alternating). Children can choose which of the two weekly time slots works best for their schedule.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR THIS CAMP?

For the Interactive Camp:

There is one video lesson a week that is around 45 minutes long. There is one practice assignment each week which we estimate could take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours depending on how thorough your child wishes to be. There are also written forums where campers can connect with the trainers and other campers. Their involvement on the forum depends on how much time they wish to spend there. There are also “Advanced Camper” exercises that are more comprehensive that could take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

For the DIY All Ages Camp:

There is one video lesson a week that is around 45 minutes long. There is one practice assignment each week which we estimate could take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours depending on how thorough your child wishes to be. There are also “Advanced Camper” exercises that are more comprehensive that could take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

For the DIY Violet Crown Camp:

There are two videos each week, each roughly 5-7 minutes apiece. There are two practice assignments each week, which we estimate could take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half or longer, depending on the child and the exercise. The stories themselves offer over 10 hours of content. The inspiration, however, will infuse all 8 weeks!

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO LISTEN TO THE SPARKLE STORIES IN ORDER TO JOIN THE CAMP?

No. The stories are the inspiration behind the camps and demonstrate the lessons in the camp, but it is not necessary for your child to know the stories in order to benefit from the lessons. However - throughout the camp, the trainers reference key moments in the stories for context and as examples. If your child is unfamiliar with Sparkle Stories, you can enjoy an extended 30 day free trial here.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ & WRITE TO PARTICIPATE?

Not at all. All three camps are a combination of videos, practice worksheets and in the case of the Interactive camp, live "trainings." The worksheets were created with learning differences in mind, and can be completed with writing or drawing or both. As long as parents or caregivers are willing to read instructions out loud, you'll be set!

HOW DO THE FORUMS WORK?

In the Interactive Camp, there are "forums" under each video lesson where campers (or parents) can post comments and ask questions. The are set up just like comments on a blog post, where trainers can respond to each comment as they come in.

WHY IS THERE "LIMITED ENROLLMENT" ON THE INTERACTIVE CAMP?

David and Meredith directly communicate with and support children through the entire camp experience.

There are interactive forums plus weekly live video trainings where the children chat with the teachers as well as each other. Because of this, and because this is our first time using this new interactive platform, we are keeping the numbers low.

If you miss this round, no worries!  You can still purchase either of the DIY camps or stay tuned for the next round!

CAN TWO OR MORE CHILDREN TAKE THE INTERACTIVE CAMP UNDER ONE REGISTRATION?

For the Interactive camp, one registration is for a single child. Due to the high-level of interaction with the campers; David and Meredith will be supporting children in their practice, discovery and development over the six weeks. If you'd like for all of your children to participate under one sign-up, then you might consider purchasing one of the DIY camps where all the lessons and resources are provided just without the interactive components.

IS THERE A SIBLING DISCOUNT FOR THE INTERACTIVE CAMP?

Yes, we can offer a sibling discount for siblings. Email us for details: supertrainers@davidsewellmccann.com.

WHAT IF I AM UNHAPPY WITH THE CAMP?

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first two weeks after the start of camp and we will give you a full refund.

WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?

Email us at supertrainers@davidsewellmccann.com any time, and we will be happy to help
