Restorative Storytelling: Authentic Presence

Authentic presence is the foundation of Restorative Storytelling in that it is the first line of any communication. Before we speak, before we move, even before we enter the road, our listener can feel our presence. Children are especially sensitive to this, so learning how to become conscious of your presence and then be able to change it is a #1 tool for parents, teachers, and leaders.

The Ground Floor of Restorative Storytelling is Authentic Presence

Here is the first lesson on Presence, the foundation of all communication. Before you speak, before you gesture or even command attention, your presence has already begun to communicate the truth.

Here is one of the exercises in the Authentic Presence book.

Traditional storytelling consists of three parts: the content of the story, the telling of the story, and connecting with your listener. There are many courses and training programs that can help create better content. There are some workshops that support vocality and nonverbal communication skills, but seldom are we trained in the most important part of effective storytelling: connecting with the audience.
